Vassilis Philippou is an exceptional composer, poet, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist specialising in the music of Cyprus, the East Mediterranean and modal music.
His work explores the aural mosaic of timbres and sounds to express his artistic vision, as shaped by his interactions with people and the environment.
In 2021, Vassilis Philippou released ‘Sol Aurorae’, consisting of nine compositions influenced by eastern Mediterranean music traditions. The release was followed by the instrumental album ‘Colourful Emptiness’ in 2022, written for piano, violin, and guitar. The releases received positive reviews and radioplay across the world music scene.
Vassilis has collaborated in a multitude of artistic productions across the mediterranean folk and modal music spectrum as well as workshops and collaborations with film, dance, and theatre artists, and is founder of the ensembles Sol Aurorae, Colourful Emptiness, Kalesma, and Larva (co-founded with Alexis Kassinos).
